Eurasion WaterMilfoil Update

Members and Residents of Pine Lake (you certainly should become a member if you are seeing this and live on the lake, message us for details on how to become a member):
See the attached map of the newest treatment areas.

A Message from Aquatic Control:

Please be advised that Aquatic Control plans on treating the red areas highlighted on the attached map the afternoon of Monday, June 26, 2017. Signs will be posted prior to the treatment. If you have an irrigation intake in the affected areas, it is recommended that the lake water not be used to irrigate broad leaf plants, flowers, or gardens for 30 days following the treatment. It is ok to irrigate grass. There are no other restrictions that should impact the folks in that area other than not swimming during the application.

Lake Clean Up | July 9th, 2016

The La Porte Area Lake Association had our annual clean up on Saturday, July 9.  We had a great time together, and did something very important for our local environment.

In addition to picking up many plastic bottles, aluminum cans and glass, a large amount of metal was collected.

I would like to thank Donna, Jay, Mary, Jay, Mary, Bob, Deb, Mike, Julie, Katie, and Scott, for their efforts to help keep our lakes clean for everyone to enjoy. I would also like to thank Waste Management for supplying the dumpster.

Ed and Peggy put on another fantastic picnic that was just the best!

Let's do it again sometime!

Thanks, Paul Thode

Eurasian Watermilfoil Update
The LaPorte Area Lake Association, through the dedicated efforts of each member, has once again been successful in obtaining the LARE Grant for 2015 that will help pay for the mapping and treatment of Pine and Stone Lakes. Without these grants, the entire cost of keeping the Eurasian Watermilfoil at bay in our local lakes would fall entirely on our association and be very prohibitive. It is only through our generous member's donations and these LARE Grants that we have been able to fight this weeds advance. The Eurasian Watermilfoil will never completely disappear from our lakes, so everyone's contribution towards this ongoing battle is greatly appreciated.

Huber's Marine Fundraiser
July 18th, 2015

From Huber's Marine Facebook Page:

Hi Friends!

The final fundraiser numbers are in for the event that we hosted for the Lake Association...

Through the combined efforts of the businesses that donated items for the silent auction, the people who attended the event, and everyone who donated, we were able to raise $6,782.00!!!

One-hundred percent of that money is going directly to the Eurasian Water Milfoil treatment fund so we are able to continue to keep Pine Lake beautiful and healthy. Thank you again to all the wonderful people that helped made this huge donation possible!!

Maple City Grand Prix Update

Friday, May 30, 2014 - Sunday, June 1, 2014

The members of the La Porte Area Lake Association want to thank the La Porte County Convention & Visitor Bureau for their donation of $1,383.00 from the silent auction at Maple City Grand Prix races held this June on Stone Lake. This money will go to the Eurasian milfoil project fund.

Eurasian Watermilfoil Update
On September 11th, Pine Lake was treated again for Eurasian Watermilfoil. The cost will be paid from the Lake Association Weed Control fund with no LARE Grant help. Several lake owners have complained about another weed which looks like Eurasian Watermilfoil. That weed is Sago Pondweed. It is a nuisance weed but because it’s a native weed, and there may be other weeds we do not want, but we cannot kill them. Once again I must say that the DNR has control of the chemicals used and what weeds are eliminated.
Our lakes really look good this year, especially if you compare them to a few years ago. We had a lot of happy boaters these past two years and that is why we take care of our lakes. There is a meeting in Columbia City on Thursday, October 16 that 10:30 a.m. CDT. I am hoping we can have a strong showing of people there, as this is the evaluation meeting for the LARE Grant. If you are interested in attending this meeting, please contact us on our contact us page.
